It Stinks!

Our city has this problem. Every so often there will waft an overwhelming, disgusting smell throughout pretty much the entire city - I guess depending on how the wind blows. We've never been able to tell where exactly it was coming from but we finally figured that maybe it was coming from a nearby factory that cranked production up at night (the smell mostly seems to arise after dark). However the once-in-a-blue-moon time that I watched the local news a few weeks ago, I found out that the city council didn't even know where it was coming from. They actually commissioned a committee to sniff it out (;-) :-P). The committee's findings were that it was coming from the city lagoon (I didn't even know there was a city lagoon!). It has something to do with certain kinds of bacteria etc interacting with other kinds of bacteria etc. Now they are trying to treat the water - with who knows what! - to get rid of the smell.
Anyway, I said all that to say this: Last night Peter and I stopped off at Ed and Jessica's for a few minutes. As we were getting out of the car, Aaron came bounding out onto the front porch waving one hand and holding his nose with the other. "It stinks out here but I'm glad you're here!" he called. Little Levi came tramping out after him, smiling and yelling something that sounded very much like a two-year-old's version of "It stinks!!!" at the top of his voice while waving his own little hand.

Happy Birthday, Daddy!

Today is Daddy's birthday! Happy Birthday, Dad! I miss you so much! I tried calling on the phone but apparently something is wrong with that number. Maybe we'll get to talk soon. Until then, I hope you have a wonderful day. I love you!

The Visit

Kristen and Mary Kate drove the five hours from Madison to visit us for a few days. We had a great time of shopping, movies and just plain catchin' up! Of course, we all had to wear our denim jackets for the group picture. :-)

Reunion

Overdue Update

Tonight I am babysitting Aaron, Lela, Alyssa, Isaac, Levi and Kyla for Ed and Jessica's date night. The three oldest are watching the black and white version of Lord Fauntleroy, the two little boys are having fun pummeling each other and Kyla is contentedly blowing bubbles and kicking and waving on a blanket on the floor. It is a fairly controlled situation aside from the noise of the movie, the boys screaming and laughing, the baby gurgling and cooing and Lela occasionally calling, "Be quiet! I can't hear!" over the din.
Peter is working tonight. He has the closing shift so he won't be home until the wee hours of the morning. The picture I posted is one that Peter's mom took of us while she was in the States over Christmas.
P.S. Now Levi and Kyla are spitting and blowing bubbles at each other - and cracking each other up in the process! :-)

More Snow

Would you believe that it snowed Saturday? in south Mississippi of all places? It actually stuck for most of the day too. I would guess it was about an inch or a little less. Aaron: "We got to taste snow for the first time in our lives, Aunt Holly!" Lela, nodding: "We got to SEE snow for the first time in our lives!" Alyssa, jumping up and down and squealing: "The first time in our lives! The first time in our lives!"

Snow!

Peter and I got to spend a few days in the snow in Iowa! It was fun. I couldn't make a snowman. The snow wouldn't stick together. I did do plenty of slipping and sliding, though. Next time, I am springing for snow boots - or something warmer with more traction! :-)
